What a great weekend! Friday was our last day of language school! First Katie lead everyone in worship and Patrick taught a devo, all in Swahili! After that we had our final exam, a brutal oral exam. A friend from school got us a cake to celebrate.

Then we got to host our first visitors from Home! Randy, Tony, and Anthony were here visiting Anthony’s ministry in Kenya and we were delighted to host them at our house at the end of their trip. We had the awesome privilege of taking them to the Mathare slum to hear about the ministry we now work with and to take a quick walk into the slums. It was great to show off our city and host them and talk at our house. They even treated us to the world famous Carnivore restaurant with Anthony’s Kenyan family! It was Hannah’s first time there and we all enjoyed beef, leg of lamb, chicken wings, ostrich, crocodile, pork ribs, sausage, and turkey.

Sunday we went to church in Mathare before the boys headed home. We had so much fun with them! We know God will use this trip to do some cool stuff in them and through them.

Today was our first day fighting traffic going into the office in Mathare all day. We are spending the next two weeks getting to know the different ministries and their staff and starting to help out some. It feels great to finally be getting to work!

Team Retreat at the Indian Ocean!

14691182_515865958612789_1239173129923727306_oHannah’s the first in the family to step foot in the India Ocean. Our team is at the coast for our annual retreat. Since we skipped family vacations the last two years, this will do.

This team retreat has been a great opportunity for our family to get to know our teammates better, talk about the team culture we’re striving for, and just relax after a long 22 months of crazy transitions for our family.

Children’s Bible

14449713_511542149045170_1272920172775970317_nHannah brought a Children’s Bible to church today and it was passed around church by so many children big and little. When this little boy got a hold of the Bible he touched it like it was the greatest treasure in the world. You know what, it is.

We are Homeless!

For all of #TeamGerbersGo that have been praying for as much as a year for the sale of our house, yesterday we closed on the house!! Praise the Lord! The money’s in the bank and that is a huge relief to us.
Special thanks to Patrick’s dad, Tim, for finishing up all the details after we left and signing a million documents.

A New Chapter Begins…

We said, “I guess we’re moving to Kenya…” a year and a half ago, but in 24 hours we’ll be boarding a plane and in 48 hours we’ll be living in Kenya…

So many emotions right at the surface. Too many details swirling in our heads. Tough goodbyes to family, friends, and favorite foods. 🙂 Looking forward to doing nothing for 16 hours on planes.

Our job is to “Land well”, meaning it’s extremely important for us to focus ourselves on figuring out what life looks like for our family in Nairobi. Meaning we won’t be getting straight to “work”. We’re in it for the long haul. So let us adjust and figure things out and we’ll post updates when we can. Flexibility is the key! (Please sign up for our email newsletter on GerbersGo.com).

The tentative plans are Thursday and Friday to search for a house to rent and Patrick learns how to drive in Nairobi, move in over the weekend, Hannah starts orientation on Monday and Middle School on Tuesday. That seems like enough for the first week!

We wanted to end on a high note… and that’s that we recently were told that WE ARE FULLY FUNDED!! Thank you #TeamGerbersGo for praying for this day and for you supporters who literally made it happen! It’s the end of one chapter, but just the beginning of our next chapter… set in Nairobi, Kenya!

We Bought Tickets!!

imageWe bought tickets to Kenya!! We have stepped out in faith to buy tickets for August 2nd so that we could get Hannah there to start school. We will spend the next couple weeks saying goodbye, packing, shopping, and selling the rest of our things.

We aren’t fully funded yet (93%). We still need around $600/month. Please consider joining 165 families already supporting us and commit to supporting our ministry each month so we can go to Kenya fully funded and keep our focus on life and ministry in Kenya.

To start supporting us, visit our page on CMF’s website.

Under Contract!

WOW! GOD is GOOD! On the first day on the market, a retired lady was the first to look at the house and that night offered us a CASH OFFER close enough to our asking price and agreed to buy it AS IS and close on August 1st!!!!

Join us in praising God!!!
We are under contract, but still need nothing major found during inspection.

*UPDATE* – The first contract fell through, but immediately we got a second, much better offer!
